Democrats hail ‘stellar’ night for Congress

Democratic hopes of winning a 60-seat super-majority in the US Senate were dim but alive on Wednesday, as four seats remained too close to call.

But Democratic officials, including Senate majority leader Harry Reid, were ebullient after their candidates picked up at least five seats once held by Republicans in the Senate and were projected to expand their majority in the House of Representatives by more than 19 seats.
