US Senate considers steep emissions cuts

Democratic senators Barbara Boxer and John Kerry introduced a climate change bill to the Senate on Wednesday, calling for faster cuts in carbon emissions than the bill already passed through the House of Representatives.

The bill calls for emissions to be cut by 20 per cent by 2020 compared with 2005 levels, the level favoured by the White House, over the 17 per cent in the House bill.
