Bottleneck hits bottle suppliers

When shoppers come across new, half-litre bottles of French rosé on sale in Waitrose next week, they will be struck by more than their unusual size. The wine’s distinctive hue will be indiscernible through green glass, usually reserved for whites and reds.

High energy prices and soaring demand for wine in the US and Asia have meant that clear glass bottles are at a premium, and retailers simply cannot get enough. Waitrose’s French supplier will not deliver them until May.
