Ireland's bid to promote itself as a location for IT and other hi-tech investment has been dealt a blow with Media Lab, the research centre of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, announcing yesterday it was closing its European subsidiary in Dublin.

The company said it was taking the decision to close, with 60 redundancies, after failing to secure additional funding of €10m ($13m) from the Irish government.
