Telecommunications: Rising rivalry brings jump in investment

The landscape of Spain’s telecommunications industry has changed dramatically in the past year.

In July 2005 France Telecom burst on to the stage with the €10.6bn purchase of the country’s third largest mobile operator, Amena. The cable assets of Auna, Amena’s parent, were sold to rival Ono for €2.25bn.
