State prosecutors in Germany have levelled charges against Rolf Breuer, the former chief executive of Deutsche Bank, marking the latest phase of a long-running legal battle with Leo Kirch, the media entrepreneur.

Mr Breuer has been charged with an attempt to sway the course of previous legal proceedings involving him and Mr Kirch by making untrue statements. Sven Thomas, Mr Breuer’s lawyer, did not return calls seeking comments but was reported by the Bloomberg news agency as saying Mr Breuer denied the charges.
