Court rules in favour of Oracle over hostile bid

Oracle on Thursday handed a big defeat to US anti-trust regulators as a court ruled against a Department of Justice effort to block the software company's hostile takeover bid for rival PeopleSoft.

The sweeping decision found in favour of Oracle on most of the major issues raised by the trial. However, the justice department was given two months to decide whether to appeal against the ruling, while European anti-trust authorities are still conducting their own investigation into the proposed deal.
