The financial crisis and widespread layoffs in the City have made many women anxious about their future but have also prompted them to redouble their efforts to network and find fresh career paths.

The 2,000 spots at the eighth annual Women in European Business conference, held in London yesterday, sold out within 48 hours and 45 per cent of those attending were there for the first time, according to Deutsche Bank, the conference sponsor.
