The Hay Festival
January

Peter Florence’s Hay-on-Wye Festival has branched out from its Welsh roots in recent years and this marks its third annual Colombian event. The festival offers readings, debates and music. Chief patron is Colombia’s master of magical realism, Gabriel García Márquez (pictured), who appeared at last year’s festival as part of his 80th birthday celebration. This year’s programme includes appearances by Chilean author Luis Sepúlveda and Mexican writer and editor Alberto Ruy Sánchez, and will take place from January 29 to February 1.
