Spread of bluetongue virus deals new blow

British farmers were dealt a fresh blow on Friday when bluetongue virus, the debilitating livestock infection, was confirmed to be circulating in East Anglia, raising the likelihood that more cases could be found in coming weeks.

The government has held out the possibility that the virus could be isolated, but tests results confirmed that the virus was spreading in the animal and midge population.
