Microsoft aims to close gap in mobile race

The latest version of Windows for mobile handsets – due to be launched on Tuesday – should stem Microsoft’s losses to Apple and Google as it races to complete a more thorough overhaul of its mobile software, according to industry analysts.

The stopgap release, known as Windows Mobile 6.5, is seen as essential in preventing Microsoft falling further behind Apple’s iPhone and other touch-screen smartphones.
