One of Germany’s best-known private bankers has struck a €1.3bn deal with Volkswagen to join Europe’s biggest carmaker in a vehicle leasing joint venture.

Friedrich von Metzler is to buy 50 per cent of LeasePlan, a Dutch company where VW was invested along with two groups from the Middle East.
