Winding-up petitions increase 23%

The number of companies getting into financial difficulty has jumped, research published today shows.

A new study finds that 2,491 companies were the subject of winding-up petitions in the courts - the last step before insolvency - in 2006. That is a 23 per cent increase from 2005.
