Profile: Bahrain: New battleground to reassert credentials

Bahrain showed itself to be fleet of foot in the 1970s, when civil war in Lebanon left a regional banking vacuum – quickly filled by the tiny Gulf state.

Three decades on, Bahrain is on an offensive once again, restaking its claim to the role of regional financial hub in the face of increasing competition from Dubai, Qatar and, more recently, Saudi Arabia, the region’s biggest market for Islamic finance.
