Carphone buys Tiscali’s UK assets for £236m

Carphone Warehouse is set to become Britain’s second-largest broadband provider with 4.25m customers after agreeing to pay £236m for the UK assets of Tiscali, the Italian telecoms company.

On Friday, Charles Dunstone, Carphone’s chief executive, said the deal would probably accelerate the company’s plans to split its retail and telecoms interests, adding that a demerger could be executed in November or January.
