Prodi favourite to win Italian elections

Millions of Italians cast ballots on Sunday in a general election that may put Romano Prodi and the centre-left opposition in power and reshape the landscape of Italian politics.

About 50m people were eligible to vote in the two-day election, which pits Silvio Berlusconi, prime minister, and his centre-right government against Mr Prodi and his allies.
