Power market: Industrialisation fuels demand

China’s rush to industrialisation is best illustrated by the massive expansion of its power network, where it is expected to add almost as much capacity this year as the entire UK power system.

Such a large scale construction project requires a large amount of copper and accounts for up to half of China’s annual total consumption, which in turn accounted for 22 per cent of global usage of 16.46m tonnes last year.
