Union targets Ofgem in row on pensions

Ministers have been asked to intervene in a row over proposals that could restrict the ability of electricity and gas companies to raise prices to pay for the final salary pensions of thousands of workers.

Ofgem, the energy regulator, last month launched a review of rules that allow electricity and gas network operators to pass on their pension costs in energy prices ultimately paid by domestic and business customers.
