Ecuador cuts Colombian ties over incursion

Ecuador broke off diplomatic ties with Colombia on Monday after a weekend raid in which Colombian forces crossed its borders in pursuit of guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc).

The raid, in which Raul Reyes, a senior Farc commander was killed, has sparked a regional diplomatic row. Hugo Chávez, Venezuela’s president, and Rafael Correa, Ecuador’s president, have sent troops to the Colombian border.
