EU buoyed by draft South Korea trade deal

When the European Union abruptly reversed course three years ago and announced it would be seeking bilateral trade deals all over Asia, it was following a path beaten down by the US.

Now, as the US’s pact with South Korea languishes unratified in a recalcitrant Congress, the EU will on Thursday initial a draft deal with Seoul that represents its first big opportunity to take the lead.
