Probably in need of spending money, Rupert Murdoch raised about $37m (£19m) this week by selling 2m News Corp shares owned by a revocable trust. At the same time, the Murdoch family trust, which is also shared by Mr Murdoch's children, sold 6.55m shares for about $123m.

Meanwhile, lover of fast cars Tom Perkins , News Corp director and founding partner of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caulfield & Byers, bought 501 shares at $19.96 each.
