Killer police officer ‘worked for Taliban’

The Taliban claimed on Thursday that the rogue Afghan police officer who shot dead five British soldiers was working for them and has been rewarded for his success with a respected position within their movement.

Qari Mohammad Yousuf, a senior spokesman for the Taliban, said the police officer had contacted insurgents in the southern Helmand province two months ago to offer to kill British soldiers who were mentoring the police.
