Germany’s strength in international markets was amply demonstrated at Tuesday night’s Best of European Business awards in Berlin. Some of the most renowned corporate names worldwide were winners or shortlisted in the awards organised by the Financial Times and Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. But German companies that have carved out world-beating positions without attracting as much attention were also rewarded.
Porsche, the luxury sports carmaker, was awarded the prize for the large company with the most impressive growth performance. The judges noted that despite increased competition and price pressures in the world car market, Porsche had increased its market share and focused on new “dynamic niches” in premium markets. Porsche has seen average annual sales growth of 15 per cent in the past five years. Also shortlisted were Eon, Deutsche Telekom and Bilfinger Berger.
