Wall St shares slide almost to March lows

Surging oil prices, poor earnings reports from the technology sector and a slump in financials pushed the Dow Jones Industrial Index briefly into bear market territory and the S&P 500 to within a hair’s breadth of its March lows on Friday.

The Dow fell to its lowest level since September 2006 – down more than 20 per cent from its October highs – before recovering slightly.
