US looks for 'Iraq troop cuts next year'

US military leaders said on Thursday they wanted to reduce the number of US troops in Iraq next year, but acknowledged that the Iraqi security forces had fewer fully trained and equipped battalions than six months ago.

“Conditions-based reduction of coalition forces is a critical element of our strategy,” General George Casey, commander of the multinational forces in Iraq, told a Senate hearing.
