Call for action on fast internet

The UK will fail to meet its goal of being a leading internet economy if no action is taken to improve the rollout of high-speed fibre cables, according to a government commissioned report on Friday.

Francesco Caio, former Cable & Wireless boss and the study’s author, stopped short of recommending government intervention, saying the case for subsidy or regulatory change was “weak at best” but the government needed to “act now” and “avoid complacency”.
