Autos drive Europe higher

European blue-chip stocks edged up to fresh 3½-year highs on Tuesday as strength in carmakers outweighed weakness in the oil sector.

The FTSE Eurofirst 300 rose 0.2 per cent, or 3.01 points, to 1,242.04.
