Air subsidies dispute hits impasse

The US and European Union ended two days of talks in Geneva yesterday with little sign of progress towards settling their multi-billion-dollar trade dispute over state aid to aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus.

In the first step in the World Trade Organisation's dispute settlement procedure, lawyers for the two sides laid out the legal arguments for their tit-for-tat complaints filed a month ago alleging breaches of WTO subsidy rules.
