IMF urges Philippines to boost tax revenue

The International Monetary Fund has urged the Philippines to introduce more tax-boosting measures to make sure the heavily indebted country achieves its target of wiping out the budget deficit in three or four years.

The Fund also warned that political uncertainties remained a stumbling block: “A risk to the near-term outlook for the Philippine economy is that political events, such as possible constitutional change, serve to sideline economic reforms.”
