BA still hopes to conclude Iberia deal

British Airways has a chance of finalising its proposed merger with Iberia before the end of the year and is also keen to make an offer for BMI, Willie Walsh, BA’s chief executive, said.

Mr Walsh said talks with Iberia to form Europe’s third-largest airline, first announced in July last year, had gone on too long but progress was being made and a deal by the year’s end was possible “with a fair wind”.
