More than mere inheritance, succession implies a dynastic dimension. One succeeds to ancient noble titles and, this year, Thierry Stern succeeds to the top job at Patek Philippe, the company his family has owned since the 1930s and that his father, Philippe – known as Mr Stern – has run for the past 32 years.
Mr Stern has guided Patek Philippe to a point where it is seen as the reference brand for complications and auction performance, and now, aged 70, he has decided to step aside.
