Nuclear: We see the dawn of an atomic age

It could be seen as surprising that 2006, the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, is also the year in which UK prime minister Tony Blair declared nuclear power to be “back on the agenda with a vengeance”.

There is still widespread opposition to nuclear power in many countries. But worries about energy security and the need to slow down climate change mean nuclear power is seen as more acceptable than in the past.
