C&W gains ground on demerger hopes

Renewed break-up hopes buoyed Cable & Wireless on Wednesday as the FTSE edged higher.

Shares in C&W gained 2.7 per cent to 143.6p ahead of its first-half earnings on November 5. The stock has underperformed peers recently on concerns about its Caribbean and UK markets, and on sterling’s rebound versus the dollar.
