Virgin Atlantic cuts ticket fuel surcharges

Virgin Atlantic is reducing the fuel surcharges levied on its economy and premium economy tickets for the first time since the crude oil price began falling in mid-July.

The move increases pressure on British Airways to take similar steps to cut air fares. The crude oil price has fallen steeply from a record $147 a barrel in July to about $77 but until Tuesday both carriers had maintained the fuel surcharges at levels set in June.
