Consumer spending on the way back, says Rose

Sir Stuart Rose said yesterday that he hoped to avoid another "Armageddon" this Christmas as shoppers regained confidence and spent on "something a bit more tasty".

"[Consumer confidence] fell off a cliff and it has recovered fairly dramatically but . . . it has a long way to go," said the executive chairman of Marks and Spencer.
