UK racing upbeat despite cuts drive

Business leaders in Britain’s “motor sports valley”, which is centred around Northamptonshire, remain optimistic that the UK can maintain its leadership in the sport in spite of attempts by Formula One’s governing body to trim spiralling costs and threats by team sponsors to quit.

Tim Bagshaw, head of investment for Northamptonshire Enterprise, said Tuesday that he was still hopeful of finding a buyer to take over the operations of the Honda team in time for the January deadline. The operations, centred in Brackley, are under threat, following news of the withdrawal of support by the Japanese motor group last week.
