Public sector cuts affect graduates

Recent graduates will be particularly exposed to cuts in public spending, according to the Centre for Cities. The think-tank found that, six months after completing their studies, 52 per cent of all recent graduates were working in public service jobs, though nationally only 27 per cent of the overall workforce is employed in the sector.

It warned that unless more highly skilled jobs could be generated in the private sector, cities would continue to see graduate unemployment rise.
