International unease grows at Iran election result

Western leaders responded with dismay to the outcome of Iran’s presidential election as analysts suggested that Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad’s disputed victory would make engagement with Tehran more difficult.

France and Germany condemned Iran’s post-electoral crackdown on protesters, and Joe Biden, US vice-president, spoke of “real doubt” about the result.
