Obama and McCain unite to ‘fix country’

Barack Obama and John McCain on Monday formed an unlikely duo in promising to “take on bitter partisanship in Washington” in their first meeting since the presidential election two weeks ago.

The two former rivals met at Mr Obama’s transition offices in Chicago as part of the president-elect’s at-tempts to reach out to former adversaries in much the same way that Abraham Lincoln did following a rancorous election in 1860.
