Watchdog backtracks on workplace safety probes

Campaigners have forced the workplace safety watchdog to backtrack on its policy of restricting investigations into deaths and injuries to members of the public.

The Health & Safety Executive had revised its guidelines so it would probe work-related accidents involving the public only if three conditions were met. These included the absence of any other, more appropriate body to deal with the investigation.
