Brown signals imminent tax cuts

Gordon Brown on Monday gave his firmest signal yet that the government is planning imminent tax cuts to bolster the economy, in what he hopes will be a concerted global effort to stimulate demand.

The prime minister told a City audience it was sensible to allow “a temporary and affordable increase in borrowing to support economic growth”, raising speculation tax cuts will feature in this month’s pre-Budget report.
