European officials made another attempt to put the US under pressure on climate change on Monday, as a delegation from the European Union met senior officials in Washington to discuss co-operation on environmental issues.

The meeting came as a report from the US Energy Department found that action to curb greenhouse gas emissions would have only a very small effect on the US economy.
