Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday became a lame duck president as voters flocked to Pakistan’s opposition parties and ejected the president’s most loyal supporters from what had hitherto been a rubber-stamp parliament.
Although the full results of Monday’s election had yet to emerge 24 hours after polls closed, the trend on Tuesday evening was clear: the pro-Musharraf Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) had been thrashed.
