Kroes to hold tough line on competition

A few hours after its leaders agreed to drop the European Union’s commitment to “free and undistorted competition” from its new treaty, Neelie Kroes, the competition commissioner, broke her silence.

Striking a defiant note Ms Kroes vowed to continue Brussels’ tough stance against cartels, illegal subsidies and protectionism.
