Akzo could consign ICI brand to history

Akzo Nobel, the Dutch chemicals company that is set to buy the UK’s ICI, formerly Imperial Chemical Industries, may scrap the ICI brand, ending its 81-year history.

Hans Wijers, chief executive of Akzo, told the Financial Times on Wednesday that his company was researching the value of the brand, and would decide whether or not to use it by the time the deal closes on January 2.
