Germany said yesterday it was suspending its share of €450m ($627m, £424m) in export credit guarantees pledged jointly by Berlin, Austria and Switzerland to Turkey because it had failed to abide by promises to protect the inhabitants and environment around the planned Ilisu dam. The decision is a blow to Ankara.
