SEC seeks greater clarity on top pay

US regulators, dissatisfied with the way some large US companies are responding to new pay disclosure rules, have written to about 300 of them asking for greater detail on how they pay their top executives, a senior official at the Securities and Exchange Commission said on Friday.

The move underscores how attempts by US regulators to force transparency into the disclosure of executive pay have run into teething troubles as they seek to clarify how companies link pay with performance.
