McCain renews claims of voter fraud

Republicans are stepping up pressure on election authorities over alleged voter fraud by a grassroots group with past ties to Barack Obama, setting the stage for a potential legal battle should the Democrat win next month's election by a narrow margin.

Republican officials have launched a slew of lawsuits calling for tougher voter -verification measures in battleground states after John McCain, the party's presidential candidate, said the US could be facing "one of the greatest frauds in voter history".
