John Lewis sales declines slow

John Lewis Partnership, barometer for the shoppers across Middle England, said sales were only marginally lower in the first week of November than they were last year.

Total sales for John Lewis Department Stores and Waitrose, the upmarket food chain, fell 0.3 per cent overall to £134.3m. Sales have now fallen since August as fears of economic and financial turmoil have set in.
