Mixed reviews greet 10th anniversary

Europe’s monetary union has produced “predominately favourable” economic effects but has shielded countries from painful yet necessary structural adjustments and reforms, according to the European Commission.

In a report marking 10 years of the euro, the Brussels executive compares the eurozone’s performance with expectations at its launch, the previous performance of member states, and countries that remained outside the region.
